Hannah Villiger: Skin Processes

Under My Skin is an encounter with skin and body. The interest in skin as an artistic language is a relatively new one. In the 1970s many female positions used their bodies and their skin as a political and antidotal medium. They initiated a contract with skin (Lea Vergine), one that needed to shock, incite awareness and aspire to reform dogmatic views and the status of women. Skin was then perceived as a site for resistance making “the personal is political.” The exhibited works play with our haptic perception through a rhetoric of desire. Arousing curiosity they in turn allow for a slow and steady alertness to deeply profound ideas such as body agency, consciousness, ambiguity, intimacy and resilience. The exhibition will feature photographic works by Hannah Villiger, sculptures and photographs by Martin Soto Climént and sculptures by Una Szeemann.
